large insect with big eyes and two club like claws on end of legs

Robber fly

Seeing a number of these large 4cm flies also known as the Assassin fly. Other insects make up their main prey which makes this a good sign a healthy invertebrate population is reestablishing.

This time last year the air was dry and thick with smoke while the sky was thundering with helicopters and water carriers. Today it is wet and the air is thick with humidity while the sounds of crickets, cicadas, bees, and insects of all shapes and sizes is delightfully deafening.
