Crimson rosella emerging from their nest hollow about seven metres up.
So happy to see this!
I could hear the chicks and it took a while to locate the source to this hollow in a burnt Silver Top Ash.
This eucalypt will not recover from the fire but it will live on as a structure for a good many years or decades.
It is still a living habitat and this crimson rosella family may well return to this nest site every year now.
Many old hollows were lost in the fires. This is one of the reasons to retains such trees for new generations of birds and possums.
